Timor-Leste Studies Initiative Virtual Workshop

Timor-Leste Studies Initiative Virtual Workshop, 1st  to 12th June, 2020

Since 2017 the TLSI has hosted East Timorese and International scholars to participate in pre-conference workshops at the AAS Annual Conferences in Toronto and Washington. This year in addition to Timor-Leste specific panels and papers being presented at the AAS Annual Conference, the TLSI had planned another workshop focusing on ‘Writing History’ and ‘Current Research Trends in Timor-Leste’. In the light of the cancellation of the AAS Conference, the TLSI organizing committee decided to adapt to current restrictions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic by taking the workshop online! Given the range of time-zones and circumstances under which participants in the workshop find themselves at this time we have chosen an asynchronous workshop model. On the 1st June (Timor-Leste time) we will start making the papers and/or presentations available to panelists. Each day we will post 1 paper and give 24 hours for comments and feedback on that paper. Those panelists who are happy to share their papers or presentations online for the wider public will do so after June 12th. Our intention with this workshop is to provide avenues for collaboration and mutual support between East Timorese and North American academics, strengthen relationships and facilitate the growth of Timor-Leste Studies in North America.
